Discipling  the Unchurched Youth:  Experiences with Street Children
By: Dr. Eigbadon Gregory E. –
Galilee Foundation

The Commission

Mt. 22:1-10 Parable of the King that prepared a banquet for the son’s wedding.

  • The “who is who” in the society were invited to the wedding banquet.
  • They all turned down the invitation with excuses.
  • Some even went as far as killing some of the servants sent to them.

The King’s Reaction:

  • He sent armies to destroy those wicked people.
  • He sent his servants to the highways (fringes/street) to gather as many as they can find both “good” and “bad” to the wedding.

Teaching Children About Jesus

Teaching Children About Jesus

Preliminary Remarks

  • Work of God involves so many parts. No one can do it all, but everyone has a role to play – where do I fit in?
  • What gifts has God given me and what is His purpose for my life?
  • What can I do in the Lord’s vineyard?
  • What is my vision? What is my passion?
  • Who has God sent me to?

My background influenced my calling

  • Raised in a Lutheran church in US, had the benefit of learning Bible stories in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School
  • But accepted Jesus as Saviour only after coming to Nigeria. I wanted my children to learn as I had.
  • In those years, most churches I saw here did not have a strong children’s department with proper teaching
  • Later, it became a burden to establish a strong children’s department in our church and develop good teaching materials.
  • I now feel a sense of urgency to teach children about Jesus

RECLAIMING AND PRESERVING GOD’S HERITAGE IN OUR OFFSPRING

RECLAIMING AND PRESERVING GOD’S HERITAGE IN OUR OFFSPRING

REMEMBER THE THREATS AND DANGERS THE NEXT GENERATION FACE

  • SECULAR HUMANISM AND ITS ASSAULT ON THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM & MORALITY
  • THE NEW AGE MOVEMENT AND ITS PERVASSIVE IMPACT
  • THE INVASION OF THE MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY
  • THE INFLUENCE OF THE PEER-CULTURE

WHAT ARE THE FOUNDATIONS AND DEFENCE LINES TO SECURE THE NEXT GENERATION AGAINST THESE FORCES?

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it”.

[Proverbs 22:6 –  NASB]

To make your brand successful, you have to make sure it’s ingrained in children by the time they are eight years old. Any brand that you want to sell to adults 15 years from now must be instilled in children growing up right now. The bottom line: BRANDING A PRODUCT IN THE MIND OF A CHILD EQUALS GAINING A CONSUMER FOR LIFE”.

GLOBAL THREATS & TRENDS WHICH IMPACT THE CHRISTIAN YOUTH AND CHILDREN

FOCUS ISSUES OF TODAY

Trends and facts that portray the danger that the future of the church faces –  locally, continentally, and globally  – as a result of the aggressive efforts by forces of evil to capture and dominate the minds of our children and young people with beliefs, lifestyle, pursuits, and interests that undermine their faith and Christian heritage and values; the dynamism of the demographics that shape the future of the church positively, if exploited carefully, or negatively, if ignored and allowed to continue to erode our Christian faith.

THE NEGATIVE EFFECT OF SECULAR EDUCATION

“My biggest concern about young Christians being indoctrinated into secularism via education is not that they will become atheists. My biggest concern is that they will become dualists.  A Christian dualist is one who reads the Bible, prays, goes to Church on Sunday, maybe teaches Sunday School, and yet doesn’t make any substantive connections between God’s Word and what goes on in the workplace for 40-60 hours Monday through Friday at ‘workplace’, because he or she thinks “faith” is a personal matter, and the workplace is “public,” and therefore “secular.
